WEBINAR: The Value of Sports in American Schools

For many Americans, sports are a hallmark of school life: They can create community among students and adult mentors, teach students valuable lessons not always offered in the classroom, and contribute to bolstering a school’s test scores and graduation rates. But some worry that American schools take sports too seriously, claiming they direct district funds away from academics. AEI’s Robert Pondiscio will discuss the merits and drawbacks of the robust sports culture in American K–12 schooling with the Aspen Institute’s Tom Farrey, Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Jal Mehta, FIT Academy’s Eric Kalenze, and the Mater Academy of Northern Nevada’s Torrey Palmer.
