On this episode, Michael Horn and Jeff Selingo cover a range of topics, including the lack of support for cost-cutting measures on college campuses, the potential role of consultants in higher education, and lessons boards of trustees can learn from Disney’s succession drama.
They also delve into the evolving K-12 to college pipeline. Compared to previous years, more high school graduates are entering the workforce or pursuing technical and community colleges. At the same time, there has been a notable increase in homeschooling and private school enrollment since Covid-19, leaving many students unaccounted for in traditional metrics.
“We don’t know how to measure or account for this in a way that really understands individual and societal success,” said Selingo. “We measure it from the point of view of institutions and I think we really need to rethink that.”
