FutureU Podcast Ep. 189: Building an AI-Ready College

Listen to the Podcast

Generative AI is advancing at an unprecedented pace, compelling higher education institutions to rethink both what they teach and how they teach it. In this episode of the FutureU Podcast, hosts Michael Horn and Jeff Selingo welcome Ann Kirschner (CUNY and ASU), Marvin Krislov (Pace University), and Chris Hein (Google) to discuss campus-wide AI strategies, the future of work, and the role of partnerships in ensuring equitable access to AI. The conversation also challenges major assumptions about AI, explores the risks it presents, and examines how higher-ed institutions can mitigate those risks.

The experts emphasize both the rapid evolution of AI and the urgency for higher-ed institutions to adapt accordingly. Chris Hein highlights the unpredictability of AI’s trajectory and the potential pitfalls ahead:

“…we usually assume that technology will continue to take a linear path, and so we expect that those transformations will happen and we’ll get better and better. Where I think that there’s a real danger sitting in front of us is that there is. You know, I’m very, very bullish on this technology being a positive change in this world, and I think there’s a good chance that we will start to squash that because of the fear and because of some of the misuse of the technology itself.”
